Historical Tours
Spend a leisurely day in the past lane, bring your coach and visit an 1800's town that time forgot.
First settled in 1822, the town of Picton nestles in a valley on the banks of Stonequarry Creek, only one hour's drive from Sydney CBD.
A visit will find some of Picton's best kept secrets which include:
- St Mark's Anglican Church - a charming mid 19th century stone building designed by Edmund Blackett.
- The Stonequarry Viaduct - the first viaduct to be built outside Sydney on the NSW railway system.
- The 1860's Tollgate Lodge - a delightful cottage, once the home of the toll collector on the Great Southern Road.
- The Imperial Hotel - built in the 1860's.
- "Jarvisfield" - the historic home of the Antill family, the original owners of Picton
Take some time to explore the wonders of yesteryear by viewing:
- The railway area including the 1863 railway station, the stationmaster's residence built in 1877, the Jarvisfield Stores and the Fur and Feather Factory.
- Visit the old government town area of Picton just south of the Picton we know today, settled in 1845 and now called Upper Picton or Redbank.
