The following are a list of Specialist Indexes by Liz Vincent.
|
Picton | Camden & Districts Surname Index
|
This specialist index covers the towns and surrounding areas of Camden, Mt Hunter, Narellan, The Oaks, Oakdale, Picton, Thirlmere, Bargo, Appin, Wilton, Menangle, Tahmoor, Cawdor, Buxton, Burragorang, Yerranderie and Cobbitty.
Some information on early residents of Luddenham, Balmoral, Greendale, Mulgoa, Campbelltown, Yanderra, Denham Court and Bringelly, just outside the index area has also been collected but this is not as in depth.
The Picton | Camden index has been compiled from over 500 local histories of schools, churches, towns, families and businesses, articles in historical journals, electoral rolls, directories, cemetery transcripts, maps, newspapers and various primary source documents.
Many of these publications are now out of print and have even disappeared from public library shelves. Some have been donated from private sources for preservation within this specialist collection. Also contained within the collection is a "Loose Leaf File" consisting of over 3,000 stray references including newspaper extracts and the personal research donated by family history researchers.
The cost of a blanket search is $11.00 per surname plus two business size, stamped self addressed envelopes (SSAEs). On application, for that fee, accesses will receive:
- An immediate acknowledgment note advising of receipt and the current estimated waiting time for the list of references.
- A print-out of all references to a particular surname. The reference will show surname, Christian name, name of book and page number.Any or all those references can then be supplied for 30cents per sheet plus postage.
- A list of all known people researching that particular surname who have previously accessed the index or whose interest has appeared in journals, newspapers and research directories.
- A list of further sources for research in the index area, libraries, historical societies and local historians.

Sub-Index Of Property, House & Inn Names
|
While compiling the indexes, a sub-index to property, house and Inn names has been made. Many of these references will be automatically produced when a search is made for a particular surname. However many items of interest may appear without the owner's name. e.g. advertisements for sale of a property.
This index can be searched for a fee of $5.50 plus 2 SSAEs.
The area covered is the same as in the Picton | Camden Surname index. Accessor must supply name of the property, house or inn.

Parliamentary Return Of Landholders Index.
|
In 1885 a return was made to Parliament of all landholders in NSW with stock depasturised. The full return is is in Parliamentary Votes and Proceedings 1885 Legislative Assembly Volume 3. Contained within this return are over 40,000 names. Originally indexed by name of land holding in 55 police districts, this has now been indexed alphabetically by surname in one complete index. Each entry shows the name of occupier, nearest post town, acreage plus number of horses, cattle, sheep and pigs on the property.
Search fee is $5.50 per surname plus two business size SSAEs.
For that fee the accessor will receive a list showing selected surname and the Christian names of every entry for that selected surname in all districts. Variants starting with the same letter of the alphabet are also extracted at no extra charge. e.g. Johnson, Johnston, Johnstone.
The index plus the original document is now available for sale on 8 microfiche at a cost of $33.00 which includes postage and packing.

NSW Court Records Index Pre 1900
|
Records contained in this index are varied and come from all over NSW. The bulk are the cases from the Picton Bench 1829-1883. A new addition is the index to Cawdor Bench Books 1825-1828.
In the early years most of the cases are for convicts but when transportation finished, cases are then mainly for residents of a particular area. All those charged, giving and being mentioned in evidence have been indexed plus those applying for licences, lodging immigration deposits and those securing government employment in an area.
Access fee is $11.00 per surname plus 2 SSAEs. For that fee the accessor will receive acknowledgment of application, estimated waiting time and a print-out from database showing name, date of case and reason for being in court if known.
The indexes for the Picton Bench Books and the Cawdor Bench Books have been published and are available for purchase from the compiler.
8 volumes for Picton each $9.60, Cawdor $6.60

The Catholic Records Index
|
This index contains 10 Catholic parish registers covering Appin, Picton, Burragorang, Berrima mainly with a small number of entries from outer areas such as Campbelltown, Sydney and Prospect. Many entries, believed to be as high as 50% are not at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. They cover baptisms, marriages and burials.
A blanket search of the database is $5-50 per surname plus two SSAEs.
This will give the accessor a printout of all entries for that surname as it appears in the index. From there, accessors can order any number of the full entries for a further $3.30 fee per entry.
This index has also been published and is available for purchase from the compiler for $11.00 plus $1.50 p&p.
